Welcome to the Nelson-Tasman GeoClub
Our interests cover all aspects of Earth and Geo Sciences, including geology, rocks, minerals, fossils, stratigraphy, geomorphology, landforms, mapping and microscopy,
We have regular meetings and field trips, and maintain a large collections of rocks, fossils and minerals from the local region and beyond. We also try to provide a service in helping to identify rocks, minerals and fossils for members of the public. If you need our advice or are interested in joining us see the Contacts page here.
We have a permanent base in the Waimea Rooms at the Richmond A&P Grounds, where we hold our meetings, store our collection and run workshops.
Paying members of the Club are granted free membership of the A&P Association, which gives free access to the annual show.

Club Meeting Note, there is no Club meeting in October. Instead, you are encouraged to intend the Nelson Science Society Lecture by Profs Daphne and Bill Lee on Fossils of Foulden Maar and New Zealand’s open ecosystems Wednesday, October 21st 19.00 Greenmeadows Corner Main Road Stoke and Songer Street, Stoke Foulden Maar, one of New Zealand's most importantg geological sites, is a 23-million-year-old volcanic crater near Middlemarch. The sedimentary beds that fill the. crater, and the fossils they contain, tell the story of of environmental change over millions of years. Daphne Lee will unveil that story, and Bill will extend the talk to look at some of the neglected ecosystems that have been part of these changes. All welcome Koha entry |

Club meetingsThe club meets every month for an evening of presentations, discussions and displays, with a field trip to a local site (usually the following weekend,)

Projects and studiesWe organise and run projects to investigate the local geology. Our current project is focused on the Triassic rocks of the Wakefield area.

Local GeologyThe Nelson area is one of the most diverse areas of geology in New Zealand, with rocks spanning the entire sequence from Cambrian to Recent.
