Our interests cover all aspects of Earth and Geo Sciences, including geology, rocks, minerals, fossils, stratigraphy, geomorphology, landforms, mapping and microscopy,
We have regular meetings and field trips, and maintain a large collections of rocks, fossils and minerals from the local region and beyond. We have a permanent base in the Waimea Rooms at the Richmond A&P Grounds, where we hold our meetings, store our collection and run workshops.
Paying members of the Club are granted free membership of the A&P Association, which gives free access to the annual show.

Field Trip Saturday or Sunday May 23rd or Sunday 24th PROVISIONAL - WATCH THIS SPACE Fossil Hunt Dellside Reserve Leader: Dave Briggs A chance to hunt for fossils, map their locations and help work out what they're telling us about the local geology. Grade: easyish-difficult. Participants will work in small groups, and follow designated routes (2-3 km in length) to search for fossils. Groups and routes will be matched according to fitnesss Duration: ca. 2 hrs . Bring your phone or camera and a GPS device if you have one. Good walking shoes recommended. Meeting time: 10.00 am Meeting place: Warring Car Park, Richmond GeoClub Members and invited guests only Contact us via the contacts page if you wish to be invited. Club Meeting Thursday, May 21st 19.00 Waimea Room A&P Grounds, Richmond A mixed programme of talks, presentations, videos and discussions of recent finds, field excursions and discoveries by members. Includes an illustrated presentation on a piece of human-made quartz and a discussion session on granites in all their different guises Bring along specimens of granite or granite-like rocks and add them to the discussion - plus any interesting finds or field work mementoes from recent trips. If you wish to present a talk please bring any illustrations/graphics (preferably as a Powerpoint file) on a memory stick. Nelson-Tasman GeoClub is proud to follow a code of conduct aimed at ensuring the safety of its members and others whilst engaged in fieldwork, and protecting the value and integrity of geological sites.

Club meetingsThe club meets every month for an evening of presentations, discussions and displays, with a field trip to a local site (usually the following weekend,)

Projects and studiesWe organise and run projects to investigate the local geology. Our current project is focused on the Triassic rocks of the Wakefield area.

Local GeologyThe Nelson area is one of the most diverse areas of geology in New Zealand, with rocks spanning the entire sequence from Cambrian to Recent.
